Before my donut fiasco ends (I think I have 2 more left after this) how could I *not* give some maple and “bacon” donut bar love out to you all (or to me)? You can find the article and recipe over at the GoodVeg. Stay a while, will ya? I will pour you a cup of coffee, hand you a donut, and let’s chat for a little bit…

What a wonderful combo of salty, smoky, and sweet! I love how when it comes to doing something, you are all in! Have you tried Soy Curls yet? I’m never one to turn down tempeh bacon, but I love smoky Soy Curls even more. They have a great texture that I think would really work here.

Then this would be the perfect match to the maple sweet tooth

now i know how my dog feels when she starts to drool at the sight of a nearly empty cereal bowl – i had the same response looking at this treat! well, i didn’t actually drool, but did have some full-on mouth watering going on.

You had me at bacon…
Cara says:

The hard part about making tempeh bacon is that, just like real bacon, when making it and allowing it to cool down, you really cannot stop eating it. Then you only have half of what you made because you ate the rest. I’m still trying to figure out how not to allow that to happen…

I guess because it’s better for you than real bacon, it justifies the munching, right?!
Cara says:
May 10, 2012
Absolutely! In fact, I think I will make more tonigh–you have convinced me

Do you know I can’t remember the last time I ate a doughnut? Maybe more than 10 years ago? They are not really that popular Down Under… we do have Krispy Crap or whatever it’s called, but I’ve never tried it.
ONLY you Cara, can make me actually want to eat a doughnut. I don’t even like bacon, I’ve had it maybe twice in my whole life, but for some reason I now want your fake bacon (I AM a sucker for the sweetie/salty combo)
Cruller. That’s a fun word. Cruller. Fun to say…wonder where that word comes from?

WHAT???! Are you for reals with the donut and bacon issue? I am not even sure if I am reading that correctly. Get your buns over here now and I am making us donuts with chocolate icing and sprinkles and we are going to gossip with our cups of coffee until it’s dinner time

CARA! You’re donut obsession needs to quit it! I always seem to check my emails at the wrong time, darn it. My stomach is growling and I’m just getting ready to go for a run, so I can’t eat!
You little cotton headed ninny poop!
Also – YOU ARE THE BEST WOMAN ON THE PLANET!
I just received my RAW CHOCOLATE book, like, five minutes ago. And I just about peed myself when I opened it!!! Can’t you tell how excited I am? Thank you so much, Cara! You have no idea how much I appreciate it. I’ll be up all night tonight, I swear. And I bet I’ll even wake up in the middle of the night with the urge to make raw chocolate goodies (that actually happens a lot – that’s where most of my raw treats sprout from). You made my day
I LOVE YOU, CARA! xxx

Actually, YOU are the best for reals–it was the very least that I could do for you and your birthday. I just thought it was SO perfect–it had your name all over it. And I cannot wait to see what amazing goodies you will be inspired to make! Post one tonight
haha. So happy to know it made your day–now you know how I feel when I (DAILY) look at my carrot ornament and homemade little art booklet. I am so serious when I say I pick it up all of the time and stare at how intricate it is and marvel at your talent. Makes me happy so I am glad that I can return the favor! I love you too!! xo

Cara says:

That sweet and salty combo never gets old for me. Probably why I like to eat potato chips and wine for dinner. Ha. That was so pathetic of me to admit outloud but it’s sadly true…

Bloody Hell, Cara! Now I need a cruller pan!
Cara says:
May 9, 2012
BAHAHA!!! YES YOU DO!
I just got an email from Amazon asking me to sell back my textbooks and they will exchange it for a giftcard. It got me thinking: How many more types of donut pans are out there? How many books could I sell to buy more? When am I ever going to stop thinking about donuts???
Brooke (Crackers on the Couch) says:
May 9, 2012
Well, I vote “never.” Never stop thinking about donuts. Donuts and crullers and bear claws and whatever those little apple blob things are they sell at Starbucks.
Cara says:
May 9, 2012
You mean those APPLE FRITTERS that have me daydreaming about them from time-to-time???!!! Oh Lordie, talk about YUM. Maybe I shall add that to the list?

Shira says:

Drumroll….I work in the coffee business here in Vancouver (hence the lovely latte art!) – fancy a job with a roaster here?! We could use a killer gluten free expert on staff actually, and I mean it! We are known for our baked goods but are sorely lacking in that area *so sad*. It’s coming along though….!
Cara says:
May 9, 2012
When do I start??!!! Who do I answer to??
Shira says:

Me…and tomorrow?
Kidding. But really, Vancouver is a lovely town….
