Raw Chocolate Spider Bites

October 24, 2012 by Cara

It’s been difficult keeping up in my Halloween kitchen lately.

There are various reasons why but the only one that is actually interesting is because of spiders. That’s not a typo either–my life has actually been infested with spiders. Not just any kind of spiders though, in fact, they aren’t actual tangible ones. I have been bitten by a dozen imaginary spiders. Can I be any more ambiguous?

No, these spiders are more symbolic and they are full of love venom, if you catch my drift. Yes friends, it is true, I have been bitten by love spiders {kinda like what cupid is for Valentine’s Day; these spiders are for Halloween}… So as a tribute I have made a batch of these raw chocolate Spider Bites. Perfect for that extra touch needed on Hallow’s Eve.

Raw Chocolate Spider Bites Recipe

{Raw Vegan} Gluten, egg, and dairy-free

Makes a boatload of Bite-sized Spiders (which means I don’t know the exact number)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 batch of Raw Fudgy Brownies base (omit walnuts)
  • melted raw chocolate recipe for coating
  • cacao nibs (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Follow recipe for Fudgy Brownies.
  2. Shape spiders by forming into 2 balls (one ball the size of a quarter; the other 1/3 its size)
  3. “Glue” head of spider onto the body with a dab of melted raw chocolate.
  4. Coat with raw chocolate until completely covered.
  5. Allow to chill and set in fridge.
  6. Place on place and create spider legs with raw chocolate (placed in a ziploc bag with a tiny hole cut out in the corner).

Well, colour me impressed 😉 These are adorable! I bet they required a lot of patience, something I don’t have a ton of haha

You know, they really aren’t too difficult to make Gabby. However, when you find yourself drifting off into la-la land, you will need some patience on your slow progression in the kitchen 🙂

Spiders are my biggest fear, so you’ll forgive me if I don’t say they are cute! I will, however, say that the ingredients look yummy. I’d make this, but I just couldn’t form them into that shape. LOL!

I say just make them into the Fudgy Brownies and you will be in heaven, sans spiders 🙂

Ah love spiders… The best kind. As long as they don’t wrap you up and leave you in a web somewhere… o.O Unless it was a chocolate web. Then that would be OK.

        Kind of.

  20. Stacy

    October 24, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Yum! If you chill these after you make the legs, will the legs hardened and stay a part of the spider?

    • Cara

      October 25, 2012 at 7:22 am

Stacy, definitely give it a shot. Place it on a piece of wax paper and chill, then use a metal spatula to get it off. I can foresee that they will be very delicate and might not all stay intact but it is definitely worth trying. Let me know if it works! xo
