Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams

September 17, 2014 by Cara

It doesn’t take any more ease to celebrate Halloween than with these Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams. Talk about simplicity, all you need is a good handful of gluten-free pretzels, melted dark chocolate to dip them into and a batch of homemade googly eyes. Easy as Frankenstein Pie, right?

Turn regular gluten free pretzels into these Halloween Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams treats.

My favorite is the one in the middle in the photo below. I love how more open his mouth seems. A real screamer. These dark chocolate covered pretzels screams are delicious too so it’s like a mix of spooky and tasty…A spooktasty treat!

And who would have thought that chocolate, gluten free pretzels, and a handful of homemade googly eyes would actually be my most popular recipe. Well, these and my Silly Apple Bites. I guess they were right when they said to keep it simple. Two easy and Halloween-inspired recipes make for some of the most shared stuff over here!

Turn regular gluten free pretzels into these Halloween Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams treats.

As a word of warning, make sure that you don’t make these  dark chocolate Pretzel Screams when it’s hotter than Hades in your kitchen. The moment that they come out of the freezer they will immediately melt on the counter (and don’t even get me started about photographing them). Then again, you don’t need to worry about that, you just need to enjoy every bite. Then again again, some of you are already enjoying the cool, brisk weather of fall. To you, I am deeply envious.

Haha these look pretty amazing. I was looking for some halloween treats to make, even though halloween is over, and these popped up. I’ll have to see if I can make some paleo pretzels.

how do you make these exactly ? I’ve melted white chip chocolate to make these and dipped the pretzels in and they certainly didn’t come out perfect, the chocolate globbed on the pretzels so you could see the open mouth….what am I doing wrong ?

    • Cara

      October 27, 2014 at 7:12 am

When you are melted chocolate it’s important to not melt them completely but to remove from the heat or microwave just before they are and then keep stirring until melted. Add 2 tsp. shortening or coconut oil to the chocolate and that will nicely smooth it out, allowing for great dipping!

What do you mean don’t make these if it’s hotter than Hades in your kitchen? Just because my air conditioner died yesterday afternoon. I mean it was only 92 with 80% humidity. I think they’re calling for 100% humidity today and, of course, no rain. How is that even possible? I think I’ve got the screaming part covered thank you very much.
P.S. The funniest part is that I just thought I was having an afternoon long hot flash until Al walked in and said the AC wasn’t working and had I called it in? I could’ve used a couple of chocolate covered screamers in melt down right about then just for company.

    • Cara

      September 19, 2014 at 7:59 am

I think I made these just to show the look of my face in this sweltering heat. I thought I had it bad with a terrible window unit that keeps just the couch cool…Laurel! No AC in TX??? Eek! I’m screaming for YOU now.
