Nice Cream Milkshakes

May 8, 2017 by Cara

Nothing screams celebration like a big ol’ glassful of ice cream blended into a creamy treat. This month is Celiac Awareness so there is a lot to celebrate, mainly the fact that nowadays there are so many great tasting products out there for those who have to go without. Trust me, 6 years ago when I started this business, there was slim pickin’s. Let’s just say some of the products out there did not taste good, Like, at all. We’ve come a long way baby! But there has been one company that I have found consistent throughout all these years in quality and flavor: Enjoy Life Foods, who are all about providing awesome food free of the Top 8 allergens. They are also responsible for making these Nice Cream Milkshakes out-of-this-world fancy. And still completely allergen-friendly.

Looking for something healthier to serve your kids for a treat? Give these Nice Cream Milkshakes a try! You'll never believe what they're made out of...

What is Nice Cream?

Nice Cream is “ice cream” made from bananas. That’s it. You freeze bananas and then throw in varying ingredients depending on what flavor you want and viola! A healthier ice cream for your kids or yourself. Does this milkshake taste just like ice cream? No, it’s made from a banana with other ingredients to mask the fact that it’s a banana but: 1). It’s healthier for you, 2). It’s a great alternative if you want a milkshake treat but are also looking for something allergen friendly, and 3). It’s pretty darn close. Instead of giving you a normal milkshake recipe, I wanted to do something different and creative. A recipe you could feel proud of when serving to your family for an occasional treat.

Now comes the real fun! You can’t simply stop just at the Nice Cream Milkshakes, oh no. Part of the fun is completely dolling up this classic treat into something decadent. I used sprinkles, dairy free whipped cream, Enjoy Life cookies, chocolate chips, and chocolate bars to add flare and fun to this healthier dessert. Throw a decorative straw in it and top with a cherry and now we’re talking.

Description

Looking for something healthier to serve your kids for a treat? Give these Nice Cream Milkshakes a try! You’ll never believe what they’re made out of…

Ingredients

Scale

For Vanilla Chocolate Chip:

  • 1 large banana
  • 1/2 c. rice or hemp milk
  • 3 Tbsp. hemp hearts
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup*
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. ice
  • 2 Tbsp. mini chocolate chips

For Fruity Strawberry:

  • 1 large banana
  • 4 large strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3/4 c. rice or hemp milk
  • 3 Tbsp. hemp hearts
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup*
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. ice

For Double Chocolate:

  • 1 large banana
  • 1/2 c. rice or hemp milk
  • 3 Tbsp. hemphearts
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup*
  • 2 Tbsp. Enjoy Life chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. ice

For the Glass Decorations, choose from the following:

  • melted chocolate
  • sprinkles
  • mini chocolate chips
  • mini cookies
  • dairy free whipped cream
  • decorative straws
  • maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Coat the top of a glass with melted chocolate and then immediately cover with sprinkles of choice. Using the leftover melted chocolate, “glue” your cookies onto the glass. Freeze for 5 minutes or until the chocolate sets.
  2. Place all of the ingredients (except for the chocolate chips if the flavor you desire has chocolate chips in it) into a high-speed blender until smooth and thick. Add more ice if you your milkshake is too thin; add more dairy free milk if your milkshake is way too thick. Adjust sweetness according to your preference.
  3. Pour into the prepared cup.
  4. Cover with dairy free whipped cream, sprinkles, cherry, cookies (whatever you desire) and serve with a straw.

Notes

*Depending on how ripe your banana is and/or how sweet you prefer your milkshakes, you might need to add more or less maple syrup.

Did you see how much protein is in these Nice Cream Milkshakes?! Thank the hemp hearts for that. Naturally sweetened by the banana and a tablespoon or two of maple syrup (depending on how sweet you like your ice cream cream), consider this a dessert you can stand behind giving to your kids for a healthier treat!
