My Green Go-To Juice

June 22, 2013 by Cara

Congrats to:

Cheri!!

You wrote: “Finally!!!!  It’s so difficult to find GF vegan recipes.  I can’t wait to try these!”

You just won yourself Allyson Kramer’s newest cookbook (enter applause track). Send me an email over at myforkandbeans@gmail.com with your address and it will be sent to you stat!

For those of you who did not win, keep your chin up! I have a recipe for you to perk up your spirits (and bowels)…

juice

I took the plunge and bought a masticating juicer. {snickering} A masti-what? Easy people, take your minds out of the gutter, I said masti-CATING. I have lots to share about juicers but now is not the time. I will be back to help you out with how to buy the perfect juicer but until then I wanted to fill you in on how I have been doing 1 week into going vegan. One word:

Fabulous.

I ended up breaking out in acne shortly after from detoxing–you know, the kind of acne that packs its bags and moves in for weeks. It cleared up in in literally 3 days (never happens usually for me). Must be all of those lies about how if you cut dairy out of your diet it rids your acne. Who would believe that? {I’m raising my hand in the back of the crowd} There were a couple of days that I was cranky, crabby, and flat out bitchy but they were short-lived days. Since getting over that first hump, I have felt better than ever! The skin on my face feels tight and I have noticed it has changed in color too. I feel fresh on the days that I don’t even shower and my bowels have taken a turn for the better (perfect table talk!) That’s right, I said it, my pooper is super!

I’m curious, how are YOU doing with the challenge?

I have started a new tradition of juicing upon waking and I wanted to share with you one of my favorite recipes thus far. Test out this tempting recipe that is sure to wake you up and break that fast first thing in the morning.

My Green Go-To Juice Recipe

My juicer (masticating Omega) makes 16 oz total with this recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 c. pineapple (1/3 small pineapple)
  • 1/2 c. large cucumber (1/2 of the cucumber)
  • 2 carrots
  • 1/4 c. fresh mint
  • 1/2 green apple
  • 2 c. organic kale

Place into juicer and enjoy every last ounce.

This is where it’s at friends. The fountain of youth.

I think I’m going to try it when my new omega vsj 843 juicer arrives.
    Cara, thanks for the recipe!

Ha! That reminds me of a friend of mine who, at a very young age (3-4?) learned to say the word masticating… being so young, and not terribly great at pronouncing things, she worried a lot of people. 😛

I adore juicing veggies, and used to do it all the time when I was a teenager, but I don’t have a juicer now. I go through phases where I really, really want one, but then talk myself out of it because I don’t have the space for it… I can’t wait to hear your tips on finding a good one, though, you might just talk me into it!

Beautiful pic of all the juices! 🙂 I don’t have a juicer but it’s definitely time to break out the blender.

A juicer is definitely worth the purchase but smoothies are equally as good. Thank you for the comment! xo

Sounds refreshing, especially on a warm morning!

I have a stick blender that gets a lot of use in the summer when I want to make smoothies 😀

[…] Green Go-To Juice. (From Fork & Beans) Rarely does Cara post a recipe that I do not like. Seriously the girl cranks out really awesome (and likeable) meals. This one I love because it’s green, but check out how much pineapple and mint are in it!! Yay!! I love the idea of green juices because they are SO healthy, but normally I simply cannot stomach all of the green vegetable based foods that are in them. Particularly first thing in the morning. This recipe is a green juice you can drink IN THE MORNING and have a great day. It’s pretty, healthy, and fruity. Gotta love it. […]
