How to Make a Leprechaun Trap

March 3, 2018 by Cara

Catch your very own leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day with this easy tutorial on How to Make a Leprechaun Trap. Using common, everyday supplies, this craft can be put together in less than 30 minutes with your kids and it does exactly what it says: It catches leprechauns*!

*No real leprechauns were harmed in the making of this post.

All the supplies you will need to make these Leprechaun Traps:

  • 1 empty cereal box
  • a pot filled with gold coins
  • popsicle sticks (2 large and 8 small)
  • glue
  • 1 Exact-o knife
  • 1 mini chalkboard sign (and chalk)

All the supplies needed for a DIY leprechaun trap: a cereal box, pot of gold, glue, a mini chalkboard sign, and popsicle sticks.

Here is how to make a leprechaun trap (in 5 easy steps):

01|05: CREATE THE TRAP DOOR. Using an Exact-O knife, cut out a small rectangle from the center of the empty cereal box. This will be your trap door that you are luring a leprechaun down.

An empty cereal box with a square cut out of the middle from an Exact-o knife.

02|05: OUTLINE THE TRAP DOOR. Glue 4 of the small popsicle sticks along the edges of the window. Allow to set completely for a minute.

03|05: MAKE THE LADDER. Using the 2 long popsicle sticks, glue the smaller sticks for the rungs. Allow to set for a minute.

2 large popsicle stick with 4 smaller ones glued to it to look like a ladder

04|05: CREATE THE LURE. Using the mini chalkboard sign (I bought mine at Michael’s for $1), create a reason for the leprechaun to climb the ladder. Since leprechauns love gold, write on the sign that there’s more!

05|05: ASSEMBLE IT ALL TOGETHER. Prop the cereal box upright and lean the popsicle stick ladder against the box, leading up to the trap door. Set the sign up with the pot of gold in front of it, and leave a trail of gold coins.

And there you have it! Your very own tutorial on how to make a Leprechaun Trap! So easy. Now, it looks like you have some glueing to do and a leprechaun to catch so I will leave you to it. Remember to take pictures and send them to me if you end up catching one. Good luck!
