Day of the Dead Skull Pizzas

September 28, 2015 by Cara

It’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween! (to be sung to the tune of the Christmas song)… The Fork & Beans kitchen is celebrating it’s kickoff of the month-long celebration of the greatest holiday ever with Enjoy Life’s pizza crust* that just so happens to be made without the Top 8 food allergies to make these festive Day of the Dead Skull Pizzas. Now THAT is what I call a celebration! Have I mentioned how much I love Halloween???

*Yup, that’s right, Enjoy Life has come out with a variety of baking mixes that include mixes for pizza, brownies, muffins, pancakes/waffles AND an all-purpose flour mix. All free of the Top 8. Bless their hearts. For reals.

Day of the Dead Pizza Skulls made with Enjoy Life pizza crust (free of the Top 8 food allergies!)

Want your kids to have fun with the Day of the Dead Skull Pizza-making action? You can either have them a part of the entire process OR make the pizza crusts all the way up to the first 10-12 minute bake. Once they come out of the oven and the baking sheet has had a moment to cool down, have the kiddos decorate their own skull with their own selection of veggies and nondairy cheese.

It's a Day of the Dead Skull Pizza party with Enjoy Life allergen-friendly pizza crust.

There is a super meltable soy cheese in block form from Trader Joe’s that melts like a dream and looks just like the real deal. Don’t like the way that soy cheese tastes or your little ones are allergic to soy? Somer of Vedged Out has an insane Foxy Moxy recipe for faux mozzarella and Vegan Richa has a vegan Pepper Jack Cheese. Both are easy to make and free of soy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box Enjoy Life pizza crust
  • pizza sauce of choice
  • 1 c. nondairy cheese, shredded

variety of veggies:

  • black olives, sliced and chopped
  • mini bell peppers, sliced
  • capers
  • red onion, thinly sliced
  • baby tomatoes, sliced
  • jalapenos, sliced
  • cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whip up the pizza crusts according to the directions on the box (you will need 1 1/4 c. water and 1 Tbsp. oil).
  3. Once you have created two dough balls, place one of the balls in the center of one of the baking sheets. Starting from the center, flatten out the dough ball with your hands, creating crust that is in the shape of a skull. It should be approx. 10-12″ in length. Repeat for the other dough ball.
  4. Bake each pizza for 10-12 minutes. Remove from the heat.
  5. Spread the pizza sauce out on both skulls and sprinkle with cheese.
  6. Assemble the desired veggies over the cheese to create a fun Day of the Dead skull design.
  7. Bake each pizza for another 10-12 minutes or until the nondairy cheese melts to your liking.
