Electrolyte Water

January 3, 2017 by Cara

Full of all-natural ingredients, free from any artificial flavors or dyes, and rich in vitamin C, this is one Electrolyte Water drink you can feel good about giving your family.

This homemade Electrolyte Water is perfect for anyone who:

  • Works out
  • Kids or adults who don’t drink enough water
  • Labor & Delivery (I plan on bringing a big jar with me to the hospital in the next few days when I go into labor)
  • Needs more hydration throughout the day
  • Losing liquids from being sick

Full of probiotics, magnesium and acts as a great aid in digestion, apple cider vinegar has so many cleansing properties, especially for the gut. I especially love mixing it in with warm water and honey on the days I don’t have time to go all out and make this DIY concoction for a quick, straight-to-my-gut refresher. Seriously, is there anything apple cider vinegar can’t do?!

coco-h20

Coconut water is rich in vitamin B, minerals, and is actually very hydrating. I like to use it in this homemade Electrolyte Water because it is already slightly sweet without all the calories and I can use less honey. You don’t have to use coconut water if you don’t want, simply replace with filtered water.

salt

Salt is actually a natural electrolyte so by adding a sprinkle of sea salt to this homemade Electrolyte Water you’re giving your body a boost of trace minerals and well, electrolytes. You can opt out on this if you want but really, the recipe only calls for a pinch for a slight salty kick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 c. fresh citrus juice (I used 1 1/2 oranges, 1 lemon, and 1 lime)
  • 1–2 Tbsp. honey (or use maple syrup)
  • 2 Tbsp. raw, organic apple cider vinegar
  • 3 c. coconut water
  • pinch of unrefined sea salt
  • 2 tsp. chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Add the citrus juice and honey into a small pan over low heat to gently melt the honey. Remove from heat.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and allow to sit for a few minutes until chia seeds have expanded.
  3. Place in a big jar or 2 separate ones. Add citrus slices into the drink (optional).
  4. If you want to drink immediately, add ice cubes. If not, allow to fully chill in fridge.
  5. When ready to consume, shake well and enjoy.

More Electrolyte Water recipes notes:

  1. Replace the honey with maple syrup if you are vegan.
  2. You don’t have to add the chia seeds. For me personally, I love chewing my drinks. Sounds weird, I know, but I love different textures in my food and beverages so I like to pour them in at the end. By chewing, it helps me slow down in drinking since I tend to down my liquids rather quickly. Plus, it’s been said that chia seeds are full of antioxidants so maybe it couldn’t hurt.

Thanks for sharing. I like the twist on it with Chia seeds and ACV. I’m due in early May and I have been looking at labor aide recipes…was excited to see this in my inbox. I may experiment with freezing it with small ice cube trays.

I love everything apple cider vinegar does for the body, especially the gut! It really is such a great addition. And the chia seeds…crunch crunch 😉 Good luck in May, Mea! I love the idea of freezing this into ice cubes <3
