Banana Monster Pops

October 9, 2014 by Cara

Theeeeey’re baaaaaaaaaack. This recipe hold a dear spot in my heart, as it was one of the firsts I created THREE years ago for Halloween. (side talk: Gosh, has it really been that long that I have taken up residence over here? My, how time flies…and how is it that I still love this just as much now as I did back then? Self-reflection is over). Truth be told, I altered this recipe up a little bit really so I could have more reasons to use up all of the homemade vegan googly eyes that still remain in my cupboard (there is a lot, even after all of these fun Halloween recipes). What’s a freakishly Halloween-obsessed girl supposed to do after all? That’s right! She makes more Banana Monster Pops. Hey, did you say that too? Man, we share the same brain. 1-2-3 Jinx! You owe me a Coke.

Monster Banana Pops are the new Halloween treat.

It’s a guaranteed fun project that is bound to make you feel magnetic just like back in the good ol’ kid days. Which is reason number 36 why you should make these. Don’t ask for reasons 1-35. If you don’t already know them, well then, I’m sorry you even asked.*

*No such reasons currently exist.

EASY and FUN! Watch these bananas transform into monsters with vegan white chocolate and homemade googly eyes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mummies:

  • 2 bananas, use the end pieces each (save the remains for the other monsters)
  • 1/4 c. vegan white chocolate, melted
  • 1/4 c. shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)
  • 4 homemade vegan googly eyes
  • 4 lollipop sticks

For the Frankensteins:

  • Remains from the Mummy banana slices
  • 1/4 c. vegan white chocolate, melted + a few drops vegan green food coloring (you might have to use yellow and blue combo)
  • 2 dates, use the end pieces of each
  • 8 homemade vegan googly eyes
  • 8 sunflower seeds
  • 4 lollipop sticks

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with a piece of wax paper. Gently place the lollipop sticks halfway through into the bananas, making sure that you do not insert it all the way.
  2. Dip each piece into the melted white chocolate, using a spoon or fork to secure the bottom of it. PLEASE NOTE: These pops can be very delicate so try your best not to hold it upright at this point. Use what you can to hold it from the bottom to transfer into the bowl and out of the bowl.
  3. For the Mummies: Coat with the shredded coconut and immediately place a googly eye in the middles.
  4. For the Frankensteins: Top with the date end piece, pressing firmly yet gently to secure it on the top. Place the sunflower seeds into the neck and two googly eyes onto his face.
  5. Place all banana pops on the baking sheet and immediately freeze for 10-15 minutes or until set.

What do I think? I LOVE it of course!! Great use of the dates and sunflower seeds, especially since I just brought home an entire box full of fresh home-grown dates from my in-laws! Excited to make some of your fun Halloween recipes with my kids the next two weeks! =)
