Black Bean Sliders

March 24, 2013 by Cara

Who says that being gluten, egg, and dairy-free means you are unable to entertain your guests with fun-sized, tasty food? There is no need to feel limited just because you might be allergic to or are avoiding specific foods.

Black Bean Sliders

This protein-packed recipe proves just that point. These mini burgers are just what your guests want to sink their teeth into…and they are so cute too! The perfect party food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can black beans, mashed with the back of a spoon (you don’t want it pureed)
  • 3 Tbsp. rolled oats
  • 2 heaping Tbsp. gluten free flour (I used sprouted black bean flour and it worked beautifully)
  • 1 Tbsp. flax seed meal, already ground + 3 Tbsp. water, allow to sit for 5-7 min until thickened
  • 1/4 red onion, diced
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt

Instructions

  1. Mix together all ingredients in a medium bowl until a nice patty can be formed.
  2. Create 8 small (or 4 large) patties between your hands. If the dough is not sticking together, add another tablespoon of flour.
  3. Heat 1 Tbsp. of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides (approx 5 min per side).
  4. Serve on mini buns and garnish with whatever you want!

I have not tried freezing them just because I eat it immediately and/or place it in the fridge but I think it could work, Mika!

Just made these. I didn’t have much fresh produce in the house so I found this recipe at just the right time of the grocery shopping schedule! They are so easy and delicious. My 17 month old daughter and I are slamming them right now as I write. Thank you!!

Hey Cara, long time no comment from me 🙂 Two things 1) these look insanely amazing!!! I cannot wait to try them and 2) are you still in Seal Beach? We finally relocated to CA and we’re living in Long Beach, just up the road from you. We need to make time to hang! xoxo
