Dia de Los MuerToasts

September 12, 2016 by Cara

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Halloween has officially begun over at Fork & Beans. I know what you are thinking, “How on earth did you wait THIS long to get things started?” To which my reply is, utter and sheer self restraint. No, scratch that. Pure insanity! I waited 2 weeks too long this month to get the Halloween spirit generated over here and I’m ashamed. Forgive me please (I secretly laugh because usually when I do get started over here, I get complaints that it’s too early. To which I reply, DO YOU NOT KNOW ME?!! I mean, look at this if you don’t believe me). So without further ado, I bring to you a breakfast that commences the start of a beautiful new season: Dia de los MuerToasts. Get it? Dia de los Muertos but their TOASTS…so it’s combined togeth…trailing off. Man, where do I even come up with this stuff?!

Turn breakfast into a spooktacular meal by making average gluten free toast into these Halloween-inspired, dairy free Dia de los MuerToasts.

What you’ll need to decorate your very own Dia de los MuerToasts:

  • gluten free O-shaped cereal
  • sliced almonds
  • raw almonds
  • dried fruit (like cranberries and blueberries)
  • fresh fruit
  • sunflower seeds

    YES! I love it!

Now I just need to think of another nut to use, because wouldn’t you know it, the only nut I’m allergic to is almond! But I think I could go with a funky nose like a cashew or hazelnut.

I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the rest of the season!

You can even use a dried cranberry, a fresh blueberry or raspberry–anything really! He won’t know the difference 😉
