For the gluten free Halloween Brownies in shape of Bats, you’ll need:

  • 1 batch of gluten free vegan brownies, cut into circles
  • melted chocolate
  • dark chocolate discs (cut in half for the wings and another half used for the ears)
  • chocolate sprinkles
  • sunflower seeds
  • homemade googly eyes

For the gluten free Halloween Brownies in shape of Owls, you’ll need:

  • melted chocolate
  • Dark chocolate discs (I found these at Whole Foods in the baking section)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 batch gluten free vegan brownies

For the Bats:

  • 1 1/2 c. melted dairy free chocolate
  • 18 dark chocolate discs
  • 24 sunflower seeds
  • 24 homemade googly eyes
  • chocolate sprinkles

For the Owls:

  • 1 1/2 c. melted dairy free chocolate
  • 24 dark chocolate discs
  • chocolate sprinkles
  • 72 sunflower seeds
  • 24 homemade googly eyes
  • 12 almonds (use pumpkin seeds for a nut free version)

Instructions

  1. Allow the brownies to fully cool before cutting them into squares. Use a round cookie cutter and gently cut each square into circle. Discard the brownie scraps.

For the Bats:

  1. Cut all 18 dark chocolate discs in half (12 of these will be the wings). Take the remainder 6 that are cut in half and cut in half again (these will the ears).
  2. Place each brownie circle on a piece of parchment paper and drizzle with melted chocolate until the tops and sides are coated. Save the leftover melted chocolate for “glue.”
  3. Coat each brownie bite with chocolate sprinkles.
  4. Immediately add the wings and ears into the brownies before the chocolate sets.
  5. Using the remainder melted chocolate, glue the googly eyes and sunflower seeds onto the top of the brownies.
  6. Allow to fully set.

For the Owls:

  1. Follow the same procedure as the bats but instead of cutting the discs in half, use the 24 whole dark chocolate discs for the eyes.

Recipe notes for these gluten free Halloween Brownies:

  1. I found the dairy free dark chocolate discs at Whole Foods in the baking section.
  2. Instead of the brownie recipe, you can use my gluten free vegan chocolate cake recipe. Instead of baking them as cupcakes, place the cake batter into an 8×8 pan and bake for 25 minutes (or until the top of the cake springs back when touched).
  3. If you need to be 100% nut free, use pumpkin seeds instead of almonds for the beaks of the owls.
